Candida
- yeast fungus - A growing epidemic

CANDIDA
YEAST FUNGUS
As far back as in ancient Greece the yeast fungus candida was
mentioned as a health risk. In our bowels there are about 400
species of micro-organisms. When we change eating habits or take
certain medicines entire intestinal flora "cultures" appear or
disappear.
The bacteria in the body could be divided in two major groups;
beneficial or harmful. It is most important and decisive for the
intestinal flora that the intestinal walls are richly furnished
with large and dense populations of nice acidophilus and bifidus
bacteria. Coliform bacteria, salmonella, parasites and fungus
are examples of harmful groups in the intestinal flora.
Candida albicans (monilia) is a simple yeast fungus, part of the
body's natural flora serving the purpose of decomposing non-digested
food. When overstimulated by too much junk food this beneficial
organism may be transformed into a harmful fungous sort of
parasite with long protuberances (mycelia) resembling roots.
As the candida fungus sticks to the intestinal wall, the intestinal
transmission is increased and candida may easily spread with the
blood in the body, invading and destroying the cells. This
parasite produces more than 80 different toxins burdening
all bodily functions, hormones, nervous signal substances and
the detoxification ability of the liver.
Candida easily invades all bodily organs and tissues but
seems to prefer the alimentary tract. Usually the alimentary
enzymes ought to stop the yeast fungus of the food. Today, however,
a large part of the civilisation, old people in particular, suffer
from a deficiency of hydrochloric acid, and thus these uninvited
guests stand good chances to attack the intestinal walls and settle
down permanently with the affected person.
If the amount of beneficial bacteria is strongly reduced and/or
the bowels are "dirty" = plaque, the fungus will have an excellent
breeding ground to grow and reproduce through the entire intestinal
tract, spreading in the whole body.
In his scripts Hippokrates mentioned patients with white tungs
and fungal infection of nail and feet. But not until the last
20 years "candidiasis" has become an epidemic.
It is difficult to estimate correctly the number of people affected
by candida infection as it occurs to a varying extent and symptoms
fluctuate from person to person. According to statistics 25
% of the Western World population suffer from candida excess.
A significant increase in the candida population with a corresponding
symptom picture is a warning signal that everything is not in
order. It is a signal that drugs, medicines, inappropriate
food or other ill-health are destroying the defence mechanisms
of the body.
The reason why the candida fungus is now spreading more than before
is the increased stress of modern civilisation combined
with the frequent use of antibiotics, contraceptive pills,
steroids and an excess of refined sugar and white flour,
transforming the acid-base and immunological defence of
the body.
The consumption of antibiotics as well as sweets has doubled since
the 1960ies and we now consume a hundred times more sugar than
100 years ago.
The biochemical disturbance caused by candida excess will bring
physical as well as mental ailments
Most people are not aware of their unbalance in the intestinal
flora. They have learnt to live with symptoms such as fatigue,
urinary tract infections, discharges, headache and recurrent
colds et cetera. You may have an oral candida infection
without knowing and vigorous forms may be transmitted by kissing,
sexual intercourse or even by sharing tooth brush with your
partner or family.
In our civilisation a new form of tiredness is spreading - "Burn-Out"
- probably caused by a lowered human tolerance level, leaving
constantly narrowing "living margins". GUA has received a large
number of guests with evident signs of this new phenomenon. We
have therefore adopted the expression:
"Today's environmentally diseased Human being
in the
environmentally diseased society".
Unfortunately our health service does not understand why so many
antibiotic and penicillin treatments are without effect. Nor does
the health service acknowledge the consequence of candida or its
disastrous impact on the body. Today modern medicine with difficulty
deals with our welfare diseases. Too many people suffer too much,
needlessly, in spite of the fact that many alternative treatments
are offered today as complement to modern medicine.
During the latter part of the 1980ies candida infections, beside
aids, were the most discussed diseases and also the most intractable
in the United States. There are signs indicating a connection
between those two epidemics. Candida trouble is very common for
patients with aids. The fungal infections weaken the immunological
defence and at the same time the inhibited immunological
defence gives free play to the aggressive form of candida.
That is why fungal infections are common when patients are treated
with immuno-suppressive medicine, which in its turn results
in complications.
The candida fungus may produce a type of false oestrogen,
telling the body that there is enough oestrogen. Hereby the natural
production of this hormone is restrained, causing menstrual disorder
for females.
Today both sexes absorb in excess the hormone oestrogen, as many
environmental toxins act as oestrogen in the body, disturbing
the hormone balance, leading in its turn to many serious diseases.
Scientists found that this is a major cause for reduced male
fertility.
With high blood sugar level the candida also produces ethanol
= alcohol, leading to a tipsy feeling although you have not
consumed alcohol. This should be remembered in connection with
driving. Acetaldehyde is another by-product closely related to
formaldehyde, easily observed as it gives bad breath.
Candida may also cause a variety of serious physical
disturbances,
"Candidasis" is a most serious disease
